After cleaning the kitchen and bathrooms, dust all surfaces like shelves and baseboards and light fixtures. Vacuum the carpets and rugs thoroughly to get the floors swept spotlessly clean under furniture. If you have hardwood or tile floors, sweeping and mopping will help remove stains, giving you sparkling clean floors.
The stains, of course, are much harder to remove, particularly those that appear on the carpets or the walls. Attack each stain you see as soon as you can with the appropriate cleaning solution. On the carpets, you would probably prefer a deep cleaner, a steam cleaner. For the walls, you would want something mild so it doesn’t strip the paint off the walls. That makes you serious about getting out of the space with everything in order.
But after all the detailed cleaning, there was going to be this review and reflection of what you would have done. So start by passing through every room again, then ensuring nothing is left behind. Little things, such as even wiping the light switches and the door handles, often miss the cleaning and make a huge appearance difference. Even walkthroughs of your rent-back with your landlord might be a great way to nail down any issues you’d like resolved before turning over the keys.
